Ulysses Muñoz is a photojournalist at The Banner where he documents daily life, photographs Baltimore’s professional sports teams and captures moments all over the surrounding region. In early 2025 he became an FAA certified drone pilot, and has since successfully piloted missions across Maryland.
In 2023, Muñoz also survived a tackle from Ravens lineman Ronnie Stanley while covering the Lions game. He was listed as Doubtful for a while, but recovered in time to photograph the AFC Championship that year.
A lifelong Marylander, he graduated from the University of Maryland’s journalism program — the Philip Merrill College of Journalism. He spent the next 7 years as both a videographer and photographer — first for The Capital Gazette, then The Baltimore Sun.
At the Sun, he was part of the 2020 Pulitzer-prize-winning newsroom recognized for its coverage of then-Mayor Catherine Pugh’s ‘Healthy Holly’ book scandal.
Muñoz joined The Banner’s visuals staff shortly before the publication’s launch in 2022.
